Hopetoun Hike

Wednesday 28th January, 10am-1pm
Join the Hopetoun Ranger for a brisk walk in and around the grounds of Historic Hopetoun House. Look out for elusive winter wildlife and enjoy the views over the Firth of Forth. Meeting Place: Main Visitor Car Park
Cost: Grounds entry fee £4.25 adult £2.50 child
Please wear suitable warm clothes and sturdy boots.

Snowdrop Sunday

Sunday 15th February, 10:30am-4pm
Get a sneaky preview of Hopetouns Grounds before the 2015 season opens and enjoy the wonderful displays of snowdrops. Drop in anytime during the day for a self-led walk or join the ranger led walk at 2pm, places limited, please book in advance. The Stables tea room will be open for this special event only with teas/coffee available.

Natures Diner

Sunday 29th March Family Event, 2pm-3.30pm
Come along to Hopetoun as the spring is getting warmed up and give your feathered friends a helping hand to wave goodbye to winter. Bring the whole family on this short walk to look for birds followed by a hands on session making feeders to take home to your own garden.

Great Eggspectations

Monday April 6th Kids event,10:30am-12noon
The Easter fun continues on Easter Monday at Hopetoun with lots of egg themed activities to keep the holidays rolling. Egg decorating, competitions and trails will keep all ages happy. Bring your very own hard boiled egg to take part in the fun. Places limited, please book and pay in advance.

Beautiful Bluebells

Explore the magical world of the Bluebell and enjoy the colourful display on the woodland floor. Hear about the natural history of this beautiful flower as you enjoy a guided walk among the trees at Hopetoun.

Two Houses and a Castle Walk

Sunday 14th June, 10.00am-1 pm
Explore the links between three of West Lothian's most historic sites with a guided walk between Hopetoun, Blackness Castle and the House of the Binns. Enjoy a lovely summer's walk, spot local wildlife and hear about these three places of interest with your guides from The National Trust, Historic Scotland and Hopetoun Ranger Services. What a great day out! Bring lunch.
Please be aware this walk will cover approx. 5 miles with rough underfoot conditions, fence crossings and requires a good level of fitness.

Deer-Lightful Day Out Kids Event

Bring the kids along to this fun deer themed guided walk. Take part in games and activities along the way and top it all off with a visit to meet the Hopetoun Red Deer Herd.

Wildflower Pharmacy

Saturday 25th July, 10:00am-12noon
Join our floral expert on a guided walk through the fascinating world of plants, their natural history, folklore and edible/medicinal properties. Who knew that nettles could be used to help arthritis and you could eat Nasturtiums? Enjoy a walk and learn about what's growing right under your feet.

Wildlife Week

Monday 3rd-Friday 7th August,10-1pm everyday (Mon-Fri)
Sign your little nature detectives up for five days of fun exploring the grounds of Hopetoun House. 10-1pm every day, they will join the rangers and find out about mini-beasts, mammals, birds and other wildlife through games, activities and fun surveys. Each day will have a different theme, ranging from a Minibeast safari to exploring the seashore.
This activity week is suitable for kids aged 7-12 with an interest in nature and the outdoors.
Cost: £25 per person for the week. Places are LIMITED.

Dusk Watch

Friday 21st August Family Event, 8pm-10pm
As the sun sets on a summers day, we go wandering in the grounds to look for Hopetoun's nocturnal residents and visitors. Bring a torch as the darker it gets, the more we explore looking for bats, moths, owls and anything else that prefers the protection of nigh time hunting. The guided walk will last for approx 2 hours with tea/coffee provided at the end.

Fantastic Fungi- First Flourish

Sunday 20th September, 2pm-3:30pm
The first of two fungi walks this autumn; we hope to explore the earlier fruiting fungi at Hopetoun. With internationally important fungi lawns, and woodlands bursting with mushrooms of all shapes and sizes, you will be guided on a gentle walk to explore the fascinating world of fungi. Please note- we will not be collecting for the pot on this walk.

The second of two fungi walks this autumn; we hope to explore the fruiting fungi at Hopetoun. Crafty Christmas Creations

Sunday 6th December Family Event, 10:30am-12 noon or 1:30-3pm
Get hands on at Hopetoun and create some spectacular handmade decorations using natural materials, why not have a go at making your own Christmas wreath? With crafts available for all ages, this is a great way for the whole family to get into the festive spirit. Please note, there will be a morning and an afternoon session with places LIMITED on both, please book early and specify which session you would like to attend. Cost: £5 per person, all places must be booked and paid in advance
